Breeding Assistant High-Tech Tomato
Due to the expansion of our program and new facilities, we are looking for a new colleague for the position of Breeding Assistant for our Tomato High-Tech breeding program based in Made.
In this position you will report to and work with the Tomato Breeder, interacting with our geneticist and biometrics team to help creating the new tomato varieties for our custmers. We are searching for a curious person that enjoys learning new things and is able to work with high precision by keeping a positive attitude. You enjoy great freedom with responsibility and is able to be a good team player.
Working with vegetable seeds requires a lot of specific knowledge. We ensure that you are extensively trained in this and offer you opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills after your training.
On this position you will learn about the High-Tech tomato market needs and the use of technological tools used to create new varieties. Preview working experience is not mandatory. We will adjust the training according to the level of the candidate.
Job requirements
Responsibilities:
Lead the implementation of high throughput Phenotyping on the High-Tech program under the guidance of the Breeder, Geneticist, Phenotyping and Biometrics teams.
Work side by side with the breeder during selection of parental lines.
Hybrid trial evaluation by collecting data on plant and fruit level.
Pre-selection of hybrids in early stage of the R&D pipeline.
Support the breeding team during greenhouse and post harvesting activities in a diverse sort of activities (greenhouse, warehouse and office).
Support the implemetation of technological tools applied to the breeding program.
Data analyses under the guidance of both geneticis and breeder.
Requirements:
We are looking for new colleague who enjoys doing varied work and who enjoy acquiring new knowledge and skills.
Completed education at minimum HBO or WO level (MSc in plant breeding, quantitative genetics or data science are a plus)
Strong organizational skills with the ability to follow detailed plans and meet clear deadlines.
A proactive problem-solver with a positive and constructive approach.
Skilled in standard office software, including Microsoft 365 applications. Experience with data analysis tools like Copilot, R, JMP, and Python is a strong plus.
Enjoys hands-on work with plants and fruits; a genuine interest in horticulture.
Experienced in driving process implementation and improvement.
Excellent English communication skills; Dutch proficiency (intermediate or commitment to achieve within 2 years) is required.
Demonstrates attentive listening, coupled with a deep understanding of cultural nuances.
Possesses a flexible and open-minded attitude, thriving in dynamic environments.
Balances autonomous work effectively with the ability to contribute positively within a team setting.
Proficient in providing and receiving constructive feedback to foster growth.
