For our R&D Department in Made, North Brabant, we are looking for a
Associate Breeder Cucumber
(Fulltime, permanent)
Reports to: Senior Pickling Cucumber Breeder.
Location: Based in Made, NL

In this role, your responsibilities will include leading breeding programs aimed at delivering competitive and value-added innovative product pipeline(s) meeting market demands, optimizing breeding strategy and processes leading to maximal genetic progress taking advantage of innovative solutions, strengthening, and exploiting the genetic base, and expanding the freedom-to-operate position.
The objective of this position is to assist the Senior Pickling Cucumber Breeder with line and hybrids development, for Breeding programs targeting global markets of Pickling Cucumber. You will have close interaction with the local breeding, research and operational team and frequent interaction with the Hazera PD, Marketing, Commercial and Production departments.
Role & responsibilities:
Organize and perform, in agreement with the breeder’s guidelines, practical tasks related to the Breeding programs.
Set up and conduct the necessary breeding trials in the Netherlands and the target countries.
Collect and analyze crop data and provide transparent reports on progress made in the breeding projects
Manage the inventory of parental lines and breeding material.
Assist the Cucumber breeder in carrying out the breeding programs.
Work independently in development of breeding lines and hybrids evaluation.
Build on effective internal and external networks and leverage relationships to support delivery breeding targets.
Provide leadership and manage seasonal staff.
Job requirements
Candidate profile:
MSc/PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, or related field.
Practical Breeding experience with vegetables.
Practical knowledge of statistics, experimental design, and newest breeding technologies.
Strong problem solving and analytic skills with an eye for details.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent administrative and computer skills (Office; Databases).
High level of English language verbal and written.
Good connectivity for marketing aspects and ability to translate customers challenges and requirements into novel genetic solutions. Creative and problem-solving attitude.
Analytical and innovative.
Effective communication skills, ability to communicate and collaborate with colleagues in different levels and disciplines. Team player and people manager.
Experience in working in an agricultural environment.
Well organized, methodical, and able to multitask.
Interested in long term employment, growth within the company.
Able to endure sometimes harsh weather conditions, as well as seasonal peaks of activities (including travel).
Flexible, convincing, and entrepreneurial attitude.
*This position includes frequent travel.
